Durban (eThekwini)

You will live like us locals in our home base in Durban.

  • Durban, Kwa-Zulu/Natal

Service Description

Durban is located on the east coast of South Africa, in the province of KwaZulu Natal, looking out upon the Indian Ocean. The city lies at the mouth of the Umgeni River, which demarcates parts of Durban’s north city limit, while other sections of the river flow through the city itself. Durban has a natural harbour, Durban Harbour, which is the busiest port in South Africa and is the 4th-busiest in the Southern Hemisphere. Bustling Durban is the hub of the province’s business and industry and pulses with all the energy of a major port city. Luxury hotels abound on Durban’s beachfront, and this city is often referred to as South Africa’s Miami Beach. South Africa’s third-largest city, Durban, is also arguably the country’s most laid back centre, by virtue of its sauna-like summer heat, and beach-centred culture - so if flipflops and shorts are your idea of attire, then you’re in the right place. Durban is a sporting paradise. The sunny climate combined with a wealth of facilities makes for a year round sporting extravaganza. Watersports such as surfing, body boarding, sailing and scuba diving are obvious favourites given Durban's proximity to the warm Indian Ocean. Rugby, soccer and cricket are also very popular with Durban boasting world class stadia for all major sports. Durban is one of the fastest-growing urban areas in the world. Its port is the busiest in South Africa and also one of the 10 largest in the world. Durban is blessed with balmy weather all year round, making it a perfect holiday paradise. We'll spend time in Durban volunteering and exploring the local culture. Come and enjoy warm oceans, perfect weather and easy living. There will be days to volunteers and our community centre with (COVID restrictions) in the township and semi-rural beach town. You get a chance to see the children, distribute food, cook, and whatever help is needed. There are endless activities within reach of our backpackers in Durban. These include scuba diving, beach horse rides, surfing, hiking and Durban city and township tours. We are very close to the beach and Mnini Dam. You will live like one of us whilst enjoying the tourist adventures throughout the Kwa-Zulu/Natal province.
